About the workshop

A one-day interactive workshop for post-docs and PIs on responsible conduct of research and good practices in the life sciences.

Honesty, accountability, professional courtesy and fairness, and good stewardship are the fundamental principles of research integrity, according to the Singapore Statement on Research Integrity. While most graduate schools teach students to survey the scientific literature, identify meaningful scientific questions, and devise experiments to solve the problems, few offer systematic training in the appropriate and correct lab practices and in how to translate the fundamental principles of research integrity in everyday work in the laboratory.

The workshop addresses these issues and aims to discuss research integrity concerns, dilemmas and uncertainties in scientific research, and to encourage responsible research practices.

The workshop is interactive and alternates presentations and discussion, focusing on the following topics:

(1) The value of responsible conduct of research

(2) The nature of scientific misconduct

(3) Conflicts of interest

(4) Publication issues

(5) Mentoring

(6) Good data and statistical practices
